At just 12 years old, Angela ‘Angie’ Wangila is the youngest person to ever conquer the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak. Despite being one of the most challenging hikes in the world, Angie persevered and accomplished this extraordinary feat.
Youngest Climber of Kilimanjaro
Angie’s incredible achievement was made possible with the help of her parents, who saw the challenge as a great opportunity for their daughter to gain confidence and build resilience. The family meticulously planned and prepared for the climb, and Angie trained for over a year to ensure she was physically and mentally ready for the challenge.
At the start of the climb, Angie was accompanied by her parents, two guides, and two porters who carried her equipment and supplies. The team began their ascent in March, 2021 and took 8 days to reach the summit. Along the way, Angie had to conquer a variety of terrains, from lush forests to barren, rocky landscapes.
Record-Breaking Feat Achieved
On the 8th day, Angie reached the summit of Kilimanjaro, becoming the youngest person to ever achieve this feat. As the youngest climber, Angie has set a new record and her achievement has been recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records.
The success of Angie’s climb is even more remarkable considering the risks of high-altitude climbing, which can include altitude sickness, hypothermia, and frostbite. Despite these dangers, Angie was able to reach the summit thanks to her hard work, determination and courage.
